Notre histoire / Our story

Nous nous sommes rencontrés en août 2010 à Salem, Oregon. Katy était dans sa première année en MBA à l'université et Vincent était en échange scolaire à cette même université et dans le même cursus que Katy. 

Dès notre première rencontre, une grande complicité s'est établie entre nous, puisque nous partageons le même sens de l'humour et l'amour du grand air : ski, randonnée,... Après un semestre, Vincent a dû rentrer en France  avant l'expiration de son visa.

Mais nous nous sommes bientôt revus, Katy ayant décidé d'étudier à son tour à l'étranger.  Nous avons donc emménagé ensemble sur Bordeaux en août 2011 pour 4 mois. Entre-temps Katy était venue voir Vincent au mois de Mai. L'attente fut longue, mais Internet et la technologie ont rendu l'attente supportable.

Pour l'anniversaire de Katy, Vincent l'invita à une représentation de "Madame Butterfly" à l'opéra de Bordeaux, Vincent demanda Katy en mariage.

During the first week of school at Willamette University in 2010, Katy awkwardly tried to make conversation with the French exchange students, of whom Vincent was one.  She also tried to make some jokes and Vincent, the only one who found them funny, laughed.  It was the beginning of something great!

We quickly discovered that we have much in common: same sense of humor, love of the outdoors and distaste for fashion (the last two indicate why we chose to settle in Seattle).  We were together the entire fall semester and then had a tearful goodbye when Vincent returned to France.

Katy then visited Vincent for a month in the spring and the two traveled to Paris, Le Touquet and other exotic destinations.  Katy couldn't get enough of France, so she studied abroad in Bordeaux during the fall semester of 2011.  Due to the less than vigorous school schedule, Vincent and Katy REALLY had a lot of time to tour around.  They went hiking and skiing in the Alps, to the beach in Lacanau, visited Toulouse and stayed with Vincent's family in Le Havre.  In October, after taking Katy to see Madame Butterfly at the Bordeaux Opera, Vincent asked for Katy's hand in marriage.  Katy, of course, said yes!

Now we are waiting on a fiance visa so Vincent can legally come to the U.S. and we can begin our life together.  Our story begins here.
